Visit this charming downtown Old Town Orcutt location for CORE Winery’s tasting room.
While CORE features a wide range of wines, it is best known for red blends which have been made since the 2001 vintage. CORE offers a selection of specialty cheeses to enjoy with a glass of wine or to take home. The room’s walls are always adorned with featured artists and the event calendar is full of opportunities to experience something new and creative.
Operated by owners/winemakers, Dave and Becky Corey, CORE Winery first opened its doors in 2001, yet the Corey family has strong roots in farming since the 1800s. The first of the Coreys’ arrived in the Santa Maria Valley in 1873. It was then, when they planted their roots and called the valley their forever home, because of the cool-climate that is not found anywhere else in the west coast.
As if taken out of a winemaker romance novel–Dave and Becky Corey met at a grape grower conference in Santa Maria. Together and with a start of only 250 cases of wine, CORE Winery began its journey in the Santa Maria Valley. Winemaker Dave has a master’s degree in Entomology and Plant Physiology from Kansas State University and prior to working in the wine industry, Dave worked in various agricultural fields. Although in the beginning of his career he focused on providing viticultural technical support and served as a pest control advisor, his love for wine was much deeper and was rooted in the soil of the Santa Maria Valley.
