Trip Tips: Experience More for Less at the Historic Santa Maria Inn

Make the Most Out of Your Weekend Getaway at the Historic Santa Maria Inn

Looking for the perfect home base for your Santa Maria getaway? We’ve got you covered. Today, we’re talking all-things the Historic Santa Maria Valley Inn. An iconic landmark that’s over a century old, the Historic Santa Maria Valley Inn serves up all of the charm and character of a storied property, while still offering guests all of the creature comforts and amenities of the modern world (cocktails by the pool, anyone?). Read on for three reasons our Valley’s favorite inn is the perfect place to set up shop for your weekend getaway.

3 Reasons We Love the Historic Santa Maria Inn

1. It gives you a true taste of Santa Maria.

A California landmark since 1917, there’s no hotel more iconic in our Valley than the Historic Santa Maria Inn. Chock full of English-countryside charm and—even better—Santa Maria-style hospitality, it’s the perfect place for those who are hoping to soak up the true flavor of Santa Maria Valley during their stay. Both a registered historic landmark and a favorite retreat for celebrities, the property boasts serene palm trees, lush greenery, a pool you won’t want to leave (trust us), and some of the most stunning guest rooms our Valley has to offer. If you’re seeking the perfect shot for that Instagram grid or love properties that boast some serious character and charm, this is your place.

PRO TIP: Ask for two keys at check-in so you can take full advantage of Santa Maria’s “Show me your key card” promotion.  (Guests receive a free wine or beer tasting with their Santa Maria Inn room key at participating locations throughout our Valley.)

2. It’s conveniently nestled in wine country.

With a unique central-coast climate that’s perfect for growing grapes, no trip to our Valley is complete without a tasting (or three) at one of our coveted local wineries. We love, then, that the historic Santa Maria Inn is nestled right in the heart of Santa Maria wine country—allowing guests seamless access to over 50 wineries and sprawling vineyards. Whether you fancy yourself a pinot person or would rather sip on sauvignon blanc, we recommend visiting the nearby Foxen Canyon Wine Trail for over 30 miles of tasting rooms. (We’ll cheers to that!)

3. It has some amazing dining options.

Voted the “Most Romantic Restaurant” by Santa Maria Sun, we love The Century Room at the Historic Santa Maria Inn for a great date night on your weekend getaway. Looking for something more causal? The Olde English Tap Room at the inn is the perfect place to sip craft brews by a warm fire (in an atmosphere that’ll have you sure you’re back across the pond). Our favorite nearby dining option, though? Broadway Street, of course—for a taste of our world-famous Santa Maria Style barbecue.

PRO TIP: Head to the Wine Cellar and Martini Bar in the Historic Santa Maria Inn Tuessday-Saturday from 5-9 p.m. for complimentary hors d’oeuvres as you taste local wines and sip on signature martinis. (Now that’s an evening we can get behind.)
