John Michael Montgomery to kick it up at the Fairpark

He’s enjoyed phenomenal success with 15 No. 1 singles and a slew of music accolades, and on Friday, July 14th, John Michael Montgomery will bring his country charm to the Santa Barbara County Fair.

The hit “Life’s a Dance,” propelled the Kentucky-born artist into national stardom but strong, romantic ballads like “I Love the Way You Love Me,” and foot-stomping, playful songs like “Be My Baby,” have endeared him to audiences everywhere.

Santa Maria Fairpark CEO Richard Persons said that Montgomery was an excellent choice for the fair’s Bud Light Concert Series lineup because of his ability to entertain and engage audiences with a high-energy show.

“John Michael Montgomery has charisma; he knows how to connect with audiences and always puts on a good show. When he steps on stage you know you’re going to have some fun,” Persons said.

Montgomery has sold 16 million albums, has earned four ACM Awards, three CMA Awards, an American Music Award, and four Billboard Awards. He was named American Songwriter Magazine’s Artist of the Year, and has earned two Grammy nominations.

Montgomery’s songs helped set the standard for a generation. Songs like “I Swear,” “I Love the Way You Love Me” and “I Can Love You Like That” were hits on the country charts but also found crossover success covered by artists on the pop charts. While those songs prove he is a master at bringing honest emotion to life in song, hits like “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident),” and “Be My Baby” demonstrate Montgomery can let loose and have a good time.

About his ability to choose songs that resonate with audiences, Montgomery said it starts with finding songs that strike a chord with him, and ultimately that authenticity will come through to his audience.

“You get to know your fans and what they like more and more through the years,” he said, “and you kind of gravitate toward one another.”

Montgomery will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 14th, at the Santa Barbara County Fair on the KCOY Main Stage. The concert is free with paid admission to the fair.
