Pismo Dunes

The Pismo Dunes, also known as the Oceano Dunes, are coastal sand dunes located just south of the town of Pismo Beach. These dunes are a natural preserve, open to the public, and run a few miles in length along the coast. You can do various outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, horseback riding and ATV driving at the Pismo Dunes.

Pismo Dunes Trail

Hike into the Pismo Dunes to find untouched sandy hills that stretch for miles. It is truly an endless, sandy and majestic view that appears to never end. Pismo Dunes trail is an easy, 2.4-mile out and back trail located near Pismo State Beach in Oceano that is good for all skill levels. The trail offers beautiful views of the surrounding ocean and wildflowers. In addition to the scenic views, the Pismo Dunes are also a natural habitat and nesting ground for several native species, including the Western snowy plover and the California least tern. Dogs are welcome on this trail as long as they’re kept on leash.

Pismo Dunes Adventures

Looking for a bit more adventure alongside a surreal view? At the Pismo Dunes, you can also go camping, fishing, and horseback riding. You can even drive ATVs right on the dunes! If you have an ATV or OHV, you can make a reservation on the park’s website to drive on the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area of the dunes. The Pismo Dunes’ adventurous versatility is definitely worth the visit.
