Bien Nacido & Solomon Hills Estates

A family with five generations of farming under their belt.

The Miller family of Bien Nacido & Solomon Hills Estates has a farming and ranching legacy that dates back to 1871. In 1969 the vision for the Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills Estate Winery was made a reality with the help of Bob and Steve Miller and made it just in time to celebrate their family’s 100th year of California farming. Although the land had been primarily used as grazing land, Bob and Steve knew the Santa Maria Valley was a special region for winemaking. The vineyard was planted in 1973 and today it boasts 300 acres of their award-winning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Bien Nacido, meaning “well-born” in Spanish, sealed their commitment and passion for bringing this vineyard to life. To continue with their goal, winemaker Anthony Avila helps produce at least 3,000 cases of ultra-premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Together they aspire to create terroir-driven and age-worthy wines that highlight both historic vineyard sites.

Anthony first fell in love with the wine industry in the early 2000s, and in 2011, he began his winemaking journey inspired by all the amazing wines he’s had the privilege to enjoy. The micro-climates, soil diversity and small-town feel, make the Santa Maria Valley the perfect place to grow grapes inCalifornia and also call home.
