We’re said before that Santa Maria BBQ isn’t a lifestyle choice around here, it’s just a way of life. Great barbecue just comes naturally in the Santa Maria Valley, where the barbecue smoke is as plentiful as the ocean breezes.
In fact, barbecue is so ingrained in the local culture that it’s even sometimes offered as a class for local high school students!
Indeed, check out this story in the Santa Maria Times about a recent course on Santa Maria Style Barbecue at St. Joseph’s High School: “Fr. Ed Jalbert, coordinator of the BBQ 101 course, said he hopes to pass on to a new generation the tradition of barbecuing using the Santa Maria red oak barbecue style.”
How cool is that? Kudos to St. Joseph’s for keeping it real for the next generation of Santa Maria Valley ‘cuers!
