Children can now play on a mini-replica of the Discovery Space Shuttle that has landed at the Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum, thanks to a partnership between the museum and Vandenberg Air Force Base.
This shuttle is the first piece of a planned hands-on, educational science exhibit meant to mimic critical roles in launching rockets.
The mock shuttle, which began as a salvaged child’s bed, was transformed by the Vandenberg Training Device Design and Engineering Center, whose employees added a fiberglass shell, wings, joysticks, buttons, a control panel, video screens and audio “liftoff” effects.
In other words, kids will find this new exhibit to be “outta this world!”
