Santa Maria Philharmonic: Elegance and Mastery
The Santa Maria Philharmonic Orchestra and Maestro Michael Nowak close the 2022/2023 season with a concert immortalizing two titans of classical music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Dmitri Shostakovich. Both Mozart and Shostakovich demonstrate a mastery of the symphony in this program. Mozart helped give birth to the modern symphony, typifying the genre for generations to come. Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 was penned in that tradition, breaking boundaries and elevating the artform. Joining the orchestra and Maestro Nowak for a performance of Mozart’s masterful Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488 is Santa Maria’s own Suri Kim, the prodigious 14-year-old pianist and winner of several competitions and accolades.
