Project Wildsong Featured at the Natural History Museum of Santa Maria

Earth Day Weekend will be extra special at the Natural History Museum of Santa Maria as the museum is unveiling a fresh look with a grand re-opening on April 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum’s Earth Day Celebration & Spring Boutique will feature a visit from the live wolves, Cael, Damu, Tracer and Renegade, who are related to the wolves in the hit television series Game of Thrones. The wolves are helping promote Project Wildsong, a wildlife preservation program.

Santa Maria BBQ Festival

Witness a barbecue competition reminiscent of an Old West “quick draw” as barbecue professionals compete for the “Branding Iron” award while amateurs square off for the “Best Backyard Cook” at the second annual Santa Maria Barbecue Festival Brews and Cues event on April 21 at Pioneer Park from noon to 5 p.m. Sample the barbecue fare and vote for your favorite “cuers” while enjoying desserts, a variety of beverages and beer from more than 20 craft breweries. Live music, a kids’ corner and specialty merchandise vendors will also be on hand. This event benefits Santa Maria’s Kiwanis for Kids program.

36th Annual Santa Barbara Vintners Festival

31st Annual Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival

The Santa Maria Valley’s uniquely moderate coastal climate is a perfect match for many crops, the most colorful of which are strawberries. This spring, the popular fruit finds its ultimate showcase from April 27 through April 29 during the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival at the Santa Maria Fairpark. This family-friendly berry bash features strawberry varietal sampling, strawberry desserts, educational exhibits, a farmers market, a petting zoo, eating contests, live music and old-fashioned carnival entertainment. This year’s festival theme is “A Berry Good Time.”
